Comprehensive Check - Talk Smart 04

Writing about Climate Change
Speaker: Fred Strebeigh

* 1. Please read all of the recommended articles for Talk Smart 04 on the Program website.
As you read, please ask yourself the following questions:
1) In this article, what authorial moves did the author make (or point to) for creating the author's authority?
2) For each move that you identify, ask how you might make a similar move to create your
authority in the articles that you are writing. (And here is a question for bonus points: Can you
create a key term that describes each authorial move that creates authority? An example: For
the article "What I Saw in Yosemite Was Devastating," your key term might be "On-the-Ground Authority." During this seminar, you have seen professional writers using key terms that they
have created: Dan Esty created and uses the key term "Green Light," and William Nordhaus
created and uses "Spirit of Green." Now you can create your own key terms, for this bonus
question about moves to create your own authority.)
* 2. Readings from past weeks to reread, please (asking questions above), for Talk Smart 04:
What I Saw in Yosemite Was Devastating [assigned by
Carl Zimmer]
Is Your Town Threatened by Floods or Fires? Consider a ‘Managed Retreat.’ [assigned by Carl Zimmer & Alfred Guy]
3. We welcome you to write down any evaluation or questions for this smart session or for this
