What is a Good Op-Ed?
Speaker: Alfred Guy

* 1. Please read 3 op-eds and take some notes on them:

Using the above sample op-eds, highlight the places where the essay shows the following key writing points:

• The beginning of an op-ed is smaller and more concrete than the rest.

• Right before the end, an op-ed usually points to fairly large and broad implications of the
issue.

• Most op-eds include 1-2 sentences that engage an opposing viewpoint with some respect.
2. We welcome you to write down any evaluation or questions for this smart session or for this
speaker.
